History Of Kirk

Kirk Smith is a high level amateur boxer who as an amateur competed over dozens of bouts and in 2020 was selected to be a part of the England boxing team when he won a silver medal in the super middleweight ABA national championships .

Before this however Kirk was just a young lad from Widnes who had a dream of becoming a boxer after seeing Rocky too many times to count . When Kirk was nine years old he first started his boxing training in Kingsway ABC , there he learned what the training of an amateur boxer looked like . Training three times a week an hour a piece Kirk learned the basics of boxing training such as how to shadow box , how to skip , how to wrap his hands properly and eventually spar . His first ever spar he was put against another novice beginner and not only outfought the boy but also outclassed him , he did so well that the main coach at Kingsway ABC talked to his farther Kirk senior and commended Kirk for his fighting abilities.

At the age of ten he moved to Phoenix Fire ABC in Warrington where he continued his training and began to work more on his technique and fighting style . From there he had his first four skill bouts and subsequently his first couple bouts. He won his first couple bouts in a row and on his sixth bout he won a bronze medal at the National ABA Schoolboy championships at age thirteen in the 52 – 54 kg division.  After this he stayed at Phoenix Fire ABC for around a year when at age fourteen he moved to the Golden Gloves ABC.

In the Golden Gloves ABC Kirk trained a lot with seniors and his main training partners were seniors , because of this Kirks training was greatly increased in intensity and he became a lot more durable and mentally stronger . The way Kirk seen it is , if he had get in the ring with a grown man who had tremendously much more strength than him then he could get in the ring with a lad his age and weight . This mindset still continues to benefit Kirk today as he is now a strong man himself so he has no fear when stepping in the ring with hard hitters because he has been doing it since he was fourteen . At the Golden Gloves Kirk got to a national quarter final and in a highly controversial decision was not given the win although in the crowds eyes he should have.

Once Kirk reached seventeen he moved back to Phoenix Fire ABC . He had a number of club show bouts before he eventually went into the Youth National ABAs where he won a silver medal and was selected to be a part of the England team and was selected to box for England in the Tri Nations British Championships .
